Hope Takes Action.

Turning hope into action.

Connecting people.
Inspiring action.

Through my fundraisers, I bring people together to support breast cancer awareness, education, and advocacy. In the future, my goal is to also share other local events, helpful information, and opportunities to connect and get involved.

The purpose behind it

Hope is more than a ribbon.
It’s an action.

For me, hope means putting compassion into motion: learning, connecting, volunteering, advocating, and supporting the work to end breast cancer.

Hope Takes Action brings people together to raise awareness, expand education, support advocacy, and fund meaningful work in the fight against breast cancer. Alongside my own fundraisers, I share community events and opportunities to help us stay connected and involved.

Inspired by psychologist C. R. Snyder’s Hope Theory, we put active hope into practice through clear goals, pathways to reach them, and the motivation to keep moving forward.

Clear goals

A shared purpose

Support breast cancer research and patient advocacy, expand access to reliable education, and advocate for equitable access to screening and care.

Pathways · Waypower

Ways to make a difference

Create connections and practical opportunities to help—from community fundraisers and volunteer events to advocacy resources and networks of support.

Agency · Willpower

The determination to act

Bring together the energy and experience of survivors, families, advocates, volunteers, and donors. Every contribution can help move our shared work forward.

Hope takes shape when we act together.

We turn hope into action when we volunteer, advocate, learn, and give. Together, we can work toward a future without breast cancer.

Inspired by C. R. Snyder’s Hope Theory.

Meet Crissy Wingfield

My story.
My purpose.

I’m Crissy—a breast cancer survivor, advocate, and the coordinator of the annual Strike Out Cancer Bowl-A-Thon. At 33, I was diagnosed with stage III invasive lobular carcinoma, with lymph node involvement. My cancer was estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR) positive, and HER2 negative. I also carry a BRCA2 gene mutation.

My experience has made this work deeply personal. I’m passionate about helping others feel supported, find reliable information, and feel more confident speaking up for themselves. Connecting with survivors, families, advocates, and community partners gives me purpose—and reminds me how much we can accomplish together.

In 2026, I graduated from the National Breast Cancer Coalition’s Project LEAD program, an intensive science training program for breast cancer advocates. Through learning about cancer biology, genetics, research design, and evaluating evidence, I strengthened my ability to understand research and bring the patient perspective into conversations about breast cancer.

As an NBCC member and a Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation volunteer, I’m committed to turning that knowledge and passion into action. Through Hope Takes Action, I share educational resources, organize fundraisers, highlight community events, and build connections that help others find support and ways to make a difference.
